pie pair member lily's statement on her trial

lily, the last remaining defendant of the pie pair, has just finished her trail with the verdict expected sometime "after february". her statement on the whole process is below:

"first of all, i want to thank everyone who has shown such support and encouragement to me while i am going through the legal system. it makes the process a whole lot easier!

previously, on the first day of trial, the crown prosecutor had presented five witnesses and my lawyer had me take the stand. the first day was adjourned before i was cross-examined.

today was the second day of trial and actually only lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes. i was cross-examined and my lawyer presented one witness for the defense. the verdict was adjourned to a later date, after february.

result: inconclusive. i don't know if i will be found guilty on any charge. there is still the possibility of jail...but not until february at least!

highlights of first day of trial: the cops said i was wiry and strong and that i was a handful. the crown presented video footage from ctv and it showed i actually touched stelmach's hat!! my aim is vindicated!

highlights of second day of trial: i debated the physics of cream pie with the crown and whether it was possible pie filling could fly backwards. we did agree that the physics of throwing pie filling is different from that of throwing a baseball. the judge let me wear my scarf around my head to keep warm. my witness debated the consistency of cream pie with the crown; eventually, they agreed it was 'loose'.

well, that's the gist of it.

i'm happy i'm not in jail tonight but once the system has you, your life is theirs until they spit you out :)

still, my situation is more comical than dire. the system has persecuted and is persecuting people in worse ways, so i encourage everyone to support canadian political prisoners (well, ALL political prisoners, really, but the ones in canada are the ones we can significantly support), families in the child welfare system and all those caught in the legal system because of poverty and racism.

thank you to all again and hopefully, i will be writing the next update on this side of the cell!"
